Official says Russia offers floating nuke project to Philippines

SOCHI, Oct 3 (PRIME) -- Russia is offering its project of a floating nuclear power plant to Philippines, CEO of state nuclear power corporation Rosatom Alexei Likhachyov said on Thursday, after a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Philippine counterpart Rodrigo Duterte.

“There are several ways of development of nuclear power in Philippines: relaunch of a plant which exists but removed from operation, and the Filipinos keep it in quite a decent state; construction of another plant, which would also have a large capacity; or an even more interesting approach which we also offered to our Filipino friends, small including floating forms (of nuclear power generation),” Likhachyov said.

Likhachyov said that floating nuclear power plants are mobile and do not require large-scale additional infrastructure.
